I love the idea of local governments having Fedi accounts. It sounds silly, but the idea of a bunch of local departments being able to get their messages out can actually be really useful. Think about how many municipal accounts post updates on Twitter to keep people informed about local events or developments.

I don't think it sounds silly at all. Government officials, departments, offices, whatever, shouldn't be behind a wall controlled by a corporation or a single individual who can skew what's seen and not seen and by whom. An algorithm shouldn't determine whether announcements get through or don't. Far from silly, it just makes sense to me that anything involved in government shouldn't use corporate social media.

Completely agree. There is a petition and lobbying of every representative and agency in getting that achieved.
