These are already suppored by #friendica , #lemmy and I think #mobilizon - mobilizon.org/about/ - I don't have direct experience with either yet but I do wonder whether donations would be better focused on an a platform with existing capabilities.

@abeorch @Reuben Walker aka mobileatom Mobilizon provided a more discord or facebook like grouping experience. The ui really drives the group as a "place" to hangout (as compared to Friendica, which i find the groups to be more downplayed as just another part of your established feed ui). A lot of elements of the UI in Mobilizon drive you towards looking at who and what all is in the group rather than only what was last said by group members. I liked it, but the instance I tried it on was struggling to interoperate with Friendica. You'd join but it would take forever for Friendica to acknowledge it, and i never could get my Friendica instance to pick up content from the Mobilizon. But on the Mobilizon end everything was pretty neat. I may still try it again with a different instance to see if the federation behaves better.

Id be happy to testing between my instance and your mobilzon instance if you wanted. Would be cool to try out Mobilizon to.

I scroll groups in Friendica when I have a particular interest vs general updates via the mian feeds.

I still really havent been able to figure out what Bonfire does that Mobilizon doesnt though.
