@abeorch No, not planning on shenenigans like that (unless the play store becomes openly hostile)

The people caring about these issues will already have FDroid, those who don't will probably only be confused by such advertisements...

And every edit to OpenStreetMap is already a vote against Google Maps, so that is already a big step for many people.

Yeah I was saying with a bit of tongue in cheek - Though of course every person that learns about #froid is also one that probably gets more exposed to #osm. I don't like purity spirals so you know let a thousand flowers bloom and all that.

I was just perhaps suggesting that froid might be your preferred app store since it allows more direct connections between you and your users - I'm all about #ownedmedia

You guys are doing a great job though and getting onto #playstore is a great achievement. - Some people play #candycrush - For me its Mapcomplete

in reply to abeorch

@abeorch Well, I get the feeling. And yeah, #Fdroid _is_ my preferred store. But sadly, Google Play Store is the distribution channel that 99% of the Android users know, trust and use.

And on the app promotion page, (app.mapcomplete.org), Fdroid is placed on top with a reason ;)

The only application allowing you to easily add or edit points of interests like restaurants, benches or anything else.
You can even note them like in Google maps or TripAdvisor.

neat. Any chance of the app supporting Android versions older than 13?
in reply to MapComplete

supplying .apk download options for legacy/older versions of android is amazing really. Thank you all.

Oh, I didn't know above you.

Is there any relation between MapComplete and StreetComplete? What would be the main differences?

Congrats on the launch!

Edit: The boost was from @lokjo
Thank you!

@jandi @lokjo We both contribute to OpenStreetMap. MapComplete got a part of it's inspiration from StreetComplete, but we have a different philosphy: MapComplete has multiple maps about a single topic, where the data on the map can be edited.

StreetComplete mostly allows to answer quests on the go (but the 'overlays'-feature is quite close to this concept)

in reply to MapComplete

Dont forget #EveryDoor - I recommend you get all three and maximise your contributions. - Everydoor is about adding what you see. mapcomplete - completes the details they should have and streetcomplete fills in the gaps.
