One category that is missing from #Mapcomplete is ‘repairs and construction’, since it is not unusual to find old houses being demolished, streets under repair or even cycle paths closed due to temporary changes... and it cannot be said that this is not essential.

@MapComplete

Oooohhhh... First of all, road works and similar are somewhat temporary, something that #OpenStreetMap generally doesn't map. Or rather, there is no consensus on what duration road works should take before we do map them.

In any case, feel free to open an issue or even a pull request here: source.mapcomplete.org/mapcomp…

So .. to cross comment - Being able to tag these kind of things against an OpenStreetMap node but not in OpenStreetmap I guess is like what you are doing with #Openreviews open-reviews.net/ - Perhaps it could link in with some of the stuff people like @Trufi Association are doing with #PublicTransport

"... at least in areas where almost all users have network access at least weekly, construction closures on the order of a month or longer should be entered.

It feels like the cadence of #osm is in the months - so anything less than a month should be available via other mechanisms. Of course national road network providers have centralised feeds of data nzta.govt.nz/traffic-and-trave… trafficengland.com/ traffic.gov.scot/traffic-scotl… - I can see there is cross over between editing apps like @MapComplete and apps like #osmand - as well as people like @Trufi Association - But of course I am so uninformed about these things .. are there services that are brining together traffic data into global feeds that allow user generated content / feedback mechanisms to report incidents?

So, if I understand correctly, any construction, repair, or correction of roads or land that will last more than ONE month is by consensus of the OSM community, data that can be added to the maps.

Based on this information, I am not mistaken when I take it upon myself to add those points where I see such work being done.

For example, a plot of land where a house is being demolished to later construct a building or several houses or even another house lasts up to one year and NEVER less than four months... and I have found about 20 such works in my small town.

Even with no consensus we can assume that *some* roadworks qualify, right? Construction for a month could be argued about, but >6 months not really IMO.

I think the answer in the link is - using conditional restrictions instead, Example: motor_vehicle:conditional=no @ 2024 May 22-2024 Oct 7 = Section of road is closed for motor vehicles (motor_vehicle=*) for a few months (for construction).

Unfortunately this solution does not account for geometry changes when the route gets an alternative path, but is still accessible to some extent. This, however, is probably beyond the scope of MapComplete.
