Integrating Forum.openwrt.org with activityPub

!OpenWrt - I really appreciate the OpenWrt forum but also like using an ActivityPub based account to browse posts on topics I am interested in.

I understand that forum OpenWrt uses Discourse which has some capabilities to integrate with activityPub services and have suggested in the forum that they are used but there doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm to do so.

Im probably not good at promoting the benefits or addressing points of concern.

What are people's thoughts?

in reply to abeorch OpenWrt reshared this.

Maybe but again I don't think that fuller implementation of ActivityPub by Discourse is the issue that is holding back OpenWrt forum from allowing some federation.

Perhaps some positive comments from ActivtyPub users on the OpenWrt fourm discussion might help encourge the admins to consider using the Discource Plugin

Stopping routes via an impassable ford

!OpenStreetMap community - I know that a particular ford openstreetmap.org/way/47302278… is impassable by cars and have tried to mark it as such however even after this change and allowing routing engines to update many still seem to use the route. (e.g. Osmand+) - Is there anything else I should have done or have I have done incorrectly that should be fixed?
in reply to abeorch OpenStreetMap community reshared this.

There is an approved tag, 4wd_only, that fits very well. But as with all tags, it's up to the engines to recognise and honor it.

A way to fine tune it would be using the acess restrictions. Maybe vehicle=no, ohv=yes? But I'm not sure whether routing engines are so vehicle aware.

in reply to guillem OpenStreetMap community reshared this.

access=* is where m* mind went too. After checking the wiki, I was reminded that is for legal access.
in reply to abeorch OpenStreetMap community reshared this.

Looks like you got it figured out. Setting it to track did the job. If you're still getting routed on something other than osm.org (e.g. a phone app), you may need to change your router settings.

in reply to 486 Selfhosted reshared this.

Eh I don't even need to think about this anymore. I have a cron job that backs up every March 31st.
in reply to 486 Selfhosted reshared this.

Eh, I'm not sure if the world can be picked backup, it's been knocked down pretty hard. I'm always down for trying though.

Imapsync - Installation and use

!Selfhosted - I'm not amazingly skilled when it comes to Linux but I'm working through installing and testing #imapsync - imapsync.lamiral.info on Debian following these instructions imapsync.lamiral.info/INSTALL.… - I'm a bit confused as it talks about example config files in a configuration directory but being a bit of a dunce I'm not sure where these would have been installed and where I should be creating config files for imapsync. My objective is to eventually sync my Gmail across to another email account I have via IMAP.
in reply to abeorch Selfhosted reshared this.

You can remap IMAP source folder to destination folder. It's very likely that sent folder needs to be remapped between different hosts.
I suggest you to use the dry-run option and examine the log to see if the folders are correctly mapped.

More in detail, I created an user just to run imapsync as a good practice in Linux.
Then downloaded imapsync in a subfolder of the user home directory, created two very simple scripts, one with the imapsync command with all the parameters I needed and one for the token.
Lastly, using crontab -e, I added two entry one for each script.

You don't need to put imapsync into etc, it is not a binary and, as far as I know, there is no package that you can install with a package manager, it's just a script that you download and execute. Anyway, where you put that, its up to you.

Yeah I did some dry runs and the folders maoped but I think its something about the labels .. Ill dig further.

That info about running via cron is really useful.

@RaccoonForFriendica I'm seeing a lot of new users from Google Play's statistics, even if the app is not yet in the production channel. Welcome everyone, I hope you'll enjoy #friendica and #raccoonforfriendica!

Thanks to all the translators who continued to work on the app UI and store description, your dedication is really appreciated. @Fitik @Cătă @TamilNeram @Ricky-Tigg

To old users, I've added two new big features: swipe navigation which allows you to navigate between posts from the conversation detail and the "shortcuts" section, where you can explore other instances and see their local timeline "as if" your were registered there. Plus, as usual, small fixes and enhancements listening to your continuous feedback.

Have a nice weekend and #livefasteattrash

I think it's a "feel" issue more than a "functional" issue. I went to double check but the app is just stopping on me. Might be my phone''s being difficult.

I think the account switch is maybe a bit too far out of the way to be readily available. The menu opens up to access the account dropdown, and then you switch to the other account and the menu stays there.

My first thought is that switching to the account should acknowledge the change and then retract the menu. It took me a while to guess my way into swiping the menu to the side to dismiss it.

I was able to switch between Friendica and Mastodon well enough, but maybe there's a way to float that switch up to the top a bit more.

in reply to xinit RaccoonForFriendica reshared this.

@xinit ok I'll add a message in a snackbar to acknowledge that the change has happened and close the side menu.

You can also switch the account from your profile screen using the top right button, even in that case I'll add a snackbar when the change happens.

Thanks for explaining it to me.

Bluetooth chat app for flights

!Open Source - Im looking for a chat app that I can use with others mid flight. Ideally id be able to send them the apk to install while in flightmode (with Bluetooth) - Yes we are too cheap to pay for seats together. But in our defence we fly alot.

Even though there are really good open source app but I'll not recommend this as Bluetooth itself is very very insecure
